| Documentary and adventure photographer, Simon Russell first picked up a camera while attending high school in Woodstock, NY, primarily to be with his girlfriend in the darkroom. However, his Nikormat soon became a tool, a way for him to bring his experiences and visions of the world to a tangible environment. "I grew up in the music industry, but had no interest or real musical talent. I read adventure books as a kid, but could not turn my thoughts into words, plus my grammar skills are atrocious. So when I found photography I jumped into it full on." My passion for photography is 24/7 and is limitless in subject matter. A beautiful detail, a majestic landscape, a weathered face, a rock-climbing adventure or a story about the human condition. The world intrigues me and stirs my passions and photography gives me a reason to be there to tell the story and to be a part of it as well. Simon Russell is based in Brooklyn, NY where he spends most of his time either chasing his 7 year old daughter as she careens madly down the streets on her new bicycle or playing baseball with his 13 year old son - who is completely addicted to the game. When opportunity arises he'll have a quiet evening at home eating spicy food, drinking New World wines and catching a good movie with his wife, Ann. |
